Open Houses - 13th April, 2008 & 12th October, 2008
Our first Open House was held on Sunday 13th April from 2:30 to 4:30pm.
The rain held off and the attendees had the opportunity to tour
the facility, met our wonderful school horses and ponies, and chatted
with our instructors. Children had pony rides, and decorated paper
ponies at the craft table. At the Open House in October we also had Hay Rides around the farm. Many
thanks to local farmer, Byron Hill, who lent us his hay wagon.
Summer Horsemanship Programs 2008
The 3 Summer Horsemanship programs that we held this year were
extremely successful:
Lead-Line Summer Program July
7-11, 2008, daily 9am - noon
This was designed for students who were riding on the lead-line
or just off the lead-line. Students learnt basic ground horsemanship,
including: horse care and handling, equipment care and maintenance,
and had a daily riding lesson, an arts and craft session, and a
mini horseshow on the final day. The highlight was definitely painting
Sweetie Be Mine, so that she looked like "My Little Pony"!
July 21-25 2008, daily 9:00am - 1:00pm:
This session was attended by beginner / intermediate riders, who could walk and
trot off the lunge line. Activities included daily riding, horse care, stable
management, and horse-related arts and crafts activities.
July 28 - August 1 2008, daily 9:00am -
1:00pm:
This session focused on the riding disciplines that make up the
equestrian sport of Eventing ! Students designed their own dressage
tests, put together a stadium-jumping course, and had the opportunity
to take cross-country riding lessons. Horse care and stable management
were also taught. Students needed to be able to jump 18”,
as well as control their horse at a trot and canter outside an
arena. Cost was $250.00 for Session 1. Session 2 was $280.00 for the
week.
